"The HSUS does not normally comment on drug use in veterinary medicine, instead recommending that those decisions be made between the individual veterinarian and pet owner. We make exception in this case because of the large number of animals reported to have had adverse reactions to this drug and due to the fact that the drug is a preventative and not used to treat disease. Other heartworm prevention drugs exist, and are known safe. At this time, it is our sense that the risk is too great to pets and their families to allow this drug back on the market."
